STAR TREK: The Maiden Voyage
Animated Special

"DIBBLE DIBBLE, TOIL AND TRIBBLE"

SYNOPSIS:  During it's first season, The network decided that the good ratings warranted a second season and also a 1-hour animated episode.  The episode was to be non-canon and more lighthearted than the standard episode, featuring exaggerated versions of the crew.  It was the last episode of season two.  The story revolves around Ens M'Pinga and Lt JG Decker being shanghaied in a cargo container they were inspecting at an Independent Starbase.  thrown into the Cargo hold along with the other things that were stolen, Decker and Pinkie must come up with a plan to escape, not knowing that a rescue is already underway.  The plan of escape involves a container full of grain and another container full of Tribbles in stasis.

Some of the more iconic moments include:

Lt CDR Price's  2cm deep "junk drawer" that contains:
Nomad, isolinear chips, a bottle of Aldebran Whiskey, a model of the Kumari, a 9-foot long multicolored scarf ("That's where the Doctor left it!") a Buck Bokai baseball card, Data's left foot, and a painting of Khan.

Major Tachibana standing in an open field and being shot at by a group of pirates barricaded in a building who can't seem to hit her.  She fires a few shots and collapses the building on top of them. When the sign on top of the building falls into view, you can make out "Stormtrooper Marksmanship School" just before is smashes into a million pieces and the rubble explodes.

A very affectionate Lt Cdr Selin.

And, the most memorable moment of all, Ens Pinkie body surfing out of the cargohold on a wave of tribbles.

Okay, okay, I was howling, yes out loud, with laughter by the end. The set up was perfect, I was already thinking of what would happen when mixing Tribbles and grain.

Other highlights that either put a smile on my face or had me chuckling were the contents of Price's 'junk drawer', like Nomad, a certain scarf (with amusing comment), the foot and painting.

What turned from chuckling to howling with delighted laughter was, of course, the 'punchline' to the major's scene and the ending with the ensign. That is not to say that the one liner scene of Selin was downplayed at all. That brought a smile, the other two were the howlers. Bravo!

OH, great picture too, I love the detailed work, the sharp lines and the, what I'll call, grown up animation. I've seen one other artist capture the feel of what I remember seeing of the animated series, and yet have the modern technique flair that could indeed make it seem as if it was a product of today even as it retained the elements of yesteryear.

I find I am look forward to your work. Likely I'm probably just going to have to watch you. I love your sense of humor, ability to tell a story and your artist skill. Its also wonderful to have such continuity with characters. Again, Bravo!
